Getting to THAT First Kiss

Oh, Happy Friday!
Your suggestions for "Lost that Cooking Feeling" were inspiring—I thank Tiff and the like-minded and the Poor Onion Farmer. This weekend I'll shop and cook for all of next week—except for when Sam takes me out for a gourmet meal (thanks, Verna), and "pizza" night (thanks, Mari). I'll provide pictures/menu.  If I can keep that up for two weeks, we'll call it the second coNUNdrum we've successfully solved. We'll be on a roll—or a crockpot—or something.

Now with a fair amount of trepidation, on to our last coNUNdrum of the week:

Dear Lisa,
My problem is that I am hopelessly addicted to The X-files. Somehow I missed it in the 90’s and am just now watching for the first time. Every day when I log onto my computer, I intend to get right to work. I’ve got articles to write, websites to publish, research to do but somehow at some point, each day, I end up on the Netflix “watch instantly” section. The thing is I want to see Mulder and Scully kiss. When are they going to kiss? I’m already in the middle of Season 2 and nothing’s happened! They are obviously attracted to each other. My big worry is that I know there are several more seasons to go. Am I going to have to watch season after season, only to be disappointed? Do I have to wait for the movie? How can I do my work or even sleep knowing that the next episode might be the one? Please help.
Signed,
Meanderer in X-files Hell

Spoiler Alert: Meanderer or anyone else a decade and a half behind who hasn't seen the X-files: kisses will be revealed--and a little more.

Dear Meanderer,

As I did not watch the X-files in the 90s, I had to go to an expert—my new son-in-law, Aaron, who's enjoying all that homecooking coming from my "Cooking Light" magazines, and who also tends to be obsessive compulsive when it comes to certain television series. I'm not knocking the tendency, though. It came in handy when I became a "Lostie" and no one else would keep me company.

Aaron said he liked the fact that Mulder and Scully, aka "Gillovny," took FOREVER to kiss--words a parent likes to hear.

There was also  a "but" in Aaron's answer.  Meanderer, which do you want first: the Bad News or the Really Bad News?

I'll pick.

Bad News: Mulder and Scully have one kiss in Season 7, but it doesn't count because Scully (that's the red-headed female, Gillian Anderson, right?), is not in the same dimension as Mulder (David Duchovny).

The first time they kiss while occupying the same time/space continuum, doesn't come till the "Millennium" episode at the VERY end of Season 8.. For consolation, if it's the second one I found on You Tube,  it's worth it.  IMHO.

The Really Bad News: According to Aaron, the X-Files goes downhill after Season 6.

With that said, here is my offbeat advice. Go to the You Tube site below and watch a pictoral of their  playful relationship  with Marilyn Monroe singing "A Fine Romance" in the background. They kiss here, but it's not the sizzling one.  Actually, I don't know the order of their smooches, or the total number they shared.  So this one could be the one at the end of Season 8--BUT it isn't the one that increases the heart rate.

If this is not enough to take your mind off their relationship and bring it  back to work, there is another You Tube video that shows an uberly smoldering kiss--which takes a while to get to, and may be more than you bargained for.   It's under "Gillovny--Stripped to the Bone."  The  "Stripped to the Bone" is the song playing in the background.  Listening to it from a married point of view,  I like it.   That's the perspective from which I viewed the video.

So Meanderer, I understand about the near impossibility of self-discipline when you have a conflicting goal—like watching these two in a lip-lock. I recommend you watch the video that will get it out of  your system. Then you can get back to work and reward yourself with an episode or two at lunch and a few at the end of the day until you meander through the series.

As for me, I'm going to ask Aaron if I can borrow the DVDs.

And Lord, please don't strike me down for this advice.

The lines are now open for what I'm hoping is better counsel than what I've given.

  1. Perfect, akshully. Get the watching over with! It's nice you have an expert in the family - might have taken you HOURS to watch all the shows to prepare an answer to Meanderer.

  2. I've not watched the X-files either, but if you want a really great chick-flick movie with David Duchovny, watch "Return to Me." (with Minnie Driver)

The old guys at O'Reilly's Italian Restaurant are well worth watching. :)

I hope Scully will forgive this suggestion. :) there is a kiss in this movie ...and you don't have to watch for seasons upon end! :)

  3. Actually the season seven kiss you mention happens at the beginning of season six, with a few more kisses including the one in Millenium far before the end of season eight. By the end of season seven, they have a full fledged (if short-lived) romance. But your advice to go straight to youtube is spot on :)

  4. Thanks so much for the advice. I think I'll take it. I'm only on season 4 by now and really do need to earn a living. Just wait for my next question. It involves the "Booty bounce" and my 82 year old mother. More to come...

  5. Great, Jeanne! Someone taking our advice. Let us know which video you watched and if it worked. I'm quaking a bit at the thought of the "booty bounce" and your mother . . . yet strangely curious at the same time.
