Living a Miss Barb-Kind-of-Life

There's something about the common person, who lives a common life, yet touches others in an extraordinary way that gets me *right* there—every time. I think it gets a lot of us *right* there—ergo the popularity of "It's a Wonderful Life."

And that's probably a good thing because, let's be frank about it, 99% of us are plain ordinary people. We're not household names, nor does our face recognition cross statelines.

Here's the coNUNdrum: I don't see a swarm of happy people running around.

YouTube is full of bread and butter folks, grasping at escargot, trying to parlay the buggers into caviar and champagne.

Maybe it's because I'm surrounded by creative types—writers, artists, actors/comedians, musicians—who have imaginations working on overdrive. Maybe it's because we've warped the idea that we are created uniquely for a unique purpose, to we are created uniquely for a famous purpose.

On the flip side, we find a glut of individuals who don't dream at all because they don't believe much can be done with bread and butter. Let's hide it in a drawer and let it mold, convinced it would have been different had we started off with brioche.

And then there are the Miss Barbs of this world. They don't squander time "working the system" in order to make it "big" in this world. Neither do they fritter life away by belittling what they have, labeling it as insufficient, thereby quitting.

No, the Miss Barbs embrace their abilities/gifts for what they are and offer them up where they are needed, leaving the rest in God's hands.

All to His glory.

And these are the people who, I believe, find joy.
