Purple=Lisa
Red=Maddie
Black=Everyone and Everything Else
Round One goes to moi. Not that coNUNdrum solving is a competitive sport, but if we had to pick a "winner" for giving the best advice to Funky Facebooker, I think that I, Lisa R.S.F.W.H. Mikitarian, would clearly win that title. FF had, as you will recall, become judgmental and arrogant in attitudes towards others on Facebook. Maddie told her to join MySpace, while I gave her a five-day assignment of searching out the most boring status updates, and then finding something good to say about each of them. Here are the results.
From Funky's Own Lips: Well, coNUNdrum solvers (every time I see that word, I expect Whoopi Goldberg to start singing "I Will Follow Him")—this is how it is:
MySpace. It's got a good name, doesn't it? It's all Mine. Me me me me me mine. Miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiy space, to make all miiiiiiiiiiiiine. Maddie, if you'd given this advice earlier, I'd have taken it. But I'm pretty sure the one-week clause says I don't have to. Besides, Lisa's assignment was the best homework I've ever had to do (emphasis mine). I hope that I'm now a sweeter and more understanding person, less judgmental and full of myself. I feel like I am, and I'm thankful for that advice. I truly, truly am.
Maddie, you'll get another chance next time I have a selfish life-crisis. We're both off the hook this time.
On the other hand, the daughter seems nicer (de-emphasis also mine) than the mother. In case anybody wanted to know my opinion.
Ha-Ha!
The mother finds that hard to believe, but as I'm extremely forgiving, I'll let it slide. I would also like to say that I noticed a real softening in Funky Facebooker's attitude from the first report she sent till the last. On Day #5 the report was filled with words like: the old me would have said this, but the new me says this. The reports showed a progression of increased humility, thankfulness, and love of fellow Facebookers everywhere. I give this person two thumbs up and an A minus. I'd have given an A plus, but for that one cranky day where I felt the positive outlook was forced. I have a keen antenna for sincerity.
The daughter (who is now speaking to you all in case you can't remember the color-coding system) would like to say that the old bumper sticker adage "I'd rather be loved than feared" is something that she takes very seriously. It's important that I also "commit random acts of kindness and senseless beauty" on a regular basis, (like anyone's going to believe that) but especially on this blog. So Facebooker, apparently I couldn't make you a better person with all that loveliness, but I guess "it happens". And I'm willing to live with that. Also, on an unrelated note: "I Heart Mountains."
Furthermore, we've been doing some deliberating, and in light of the recent membership upgrades that we awarded outside of the actual rules, we'd like to present Mari of www.marilavell.com with Stainless Steel Membership in recognition of all the wonderful work she's done on the mechanics of Connecting Now.
A tip of the hat to yooooou, dear Mari!
(I know you adore me, so I'm not even going to ask.)
Congrats, Mari! Thank you VERY much for all your help.
Also, unrelated to Mari, but very related to this blog and other writers on it, I happen to love AND adore mountains AND small animals like squir squirr . . . how do you spell this animal?
s-q-u-i-r-r-e-l
Thank you.
I do what I can.
On that kind note, it may be time to close this transmission.
Maddie
The Lines are WAAAAAY open:).

What a good mother. ;)
ReplyDeleteAs I reading Lisa's name and all the initials between Lisa and Mikitarian... I'm mental-ly [emphesis on the mental] saying each of the names. :)
ReplyDelete...and all the emphesis and de-emphesis in this post made me smile...
Congrats to Mari for her recent status upgrade... it couldn't happen to a nicer person! :)
I'm reading along and then...huh? well ok...they (purple and red) like to make up the rules as they go. It's all good...unless we're playing something like Kick the Can and you have your own rules-as-you-go system then. Thank you for the ummm status upgrade. BTW...red and purple do not match your blog color scheme. I'm just saying.
ReplyDeleteI live in the mountains...have squirrels right off my back porch. Just saying (again)
Beth...you remember all Lisa's names? :)
Beth, I'm impressed... I had to stop and think, 'now what were those names again?' ... just sayin'. ;)
ReplyDeleteCongrats Mari on your status upgrade. That's tres cool!

ReplyDeleteWhat we have here is a perfect example of how love AND correction with accountability can truly change a person for the better! It mirrors how we're all being changed...by the love and correction of our Heavenly Father.
Sniffle...thanks for touching my heart today...and making me laugh as well.
I hart mik chiks!
...but I refuse to paste it on my bum...
Holly thats exactly (more or less) what we were trying to accomplish here with Funky Facebooker, and we appreciate you bringing it to our attention.
ReplyDeletemik chiks . . . on a bum. . . why do I have the sudden desire to visit the Golden Arches?
Lisa, you ALWAYS make me smile. And Maddie you're a hoot. What a team you two make! Lisa, it impresses me how you hang in there with all these conundrum senders ESPECIALLY when one of them tells you that your daughter is nicer?!than you are!!
ReplyDeleteDoes remembering all of Lisa's names upgrade my status? ....
ReplyDeleteLyn--thanks for noticing exactly how tightly I hang in there despite flack and opposition. Thick skin is a requirement in this field.
ReplyDeleteBeth--Maddie and I will confir. I think you deserve it. I know how long it took me to remember Mikitarian. These names are not the garden variety, and I applaud you.
