Introducing Connecting Coco!

Greetings Readers!
Connecting Now invites you to take part in another harebrained scheme, which ironically enough includes hair.  (As a side note, we always assumed "harebrained" was "hair-brained," because hair is so close to the head which houses the brain—but no, spell check would say otherwise.)

Drum Roll, Please……..introducing Connecting  Coco, as in Coco Chanel.   We are huge fans of hers.  Not only do we love her philosophy when it comes to style, but she's so dag-gum quotable.   Here's a sample:

Elegance does not consist in putting on a new dress.

What can Connecting Coco do for you?
Using Coco's principles as a guide, we'll offer our often-ignored advice to anyone with a style question.
  • Are you thinking about a new hairstyle?
  • Do you have a big event coming up?
  • Whether it's hair, make-up, clothes, shoes, accessories, etc, we'll weigh in with our opinions of what you've chosen, or we'll come up with recommendations for you.
Not to toot our own horns, but to let you know you'd be in good hands, here are our qualifications:

Maddie is a licensed esthetician.  In addition to her extraordinary waxing, facial, skincare and massage abilities, she does makeovers for clients.  Her passion is paramedical camouflage makeup for those with skin irregularities such as melasma. But she also loves bridal makeup. (Hint, hint to all the future Connecting Luv brides...) She considers herself a brow enthusiast and it pains her to see over-plucked "Nike Swoosh" brows.

Lisa was a certified beauty advisor and trainer for Avon.  She trained representatives on make-up, and body type/personality type in regards to clothing.  Then there's the invaluable expertise the Army gave her on the art of camouflage.  (Apparently, camouflage is a big part of our beauty regimen)

The MikChiks are the go-to stylists at prom/graduation time--and if we can make teenagers happy, we can make anyone happy.

In case you're worried that we always play it safe, here is Exhibit A--what Lisa wore to Mr. Mik's company Christmas party, and then Maddie wore the following week to church:

Rath Platform Wedges by Simply Vera, Vera Wang, now available at Kohls for $54.99
Exciting, no?

But as we all know, style isn't just who/what you're wearing; it's how you're wearing it.  Connecting Coco is all about how you carry yourself, how you treat others, with a pinch of etiquette thrown in.

We hope you know us a little by now—we aren't outlandish (unless you want us to be).  We aren't about fake exteriors.  If you have fashion questions, we'd be happy to help.  The first person to contact us will receive one of Maddie's exclusive Beanie Baby Sleeping Bags, plus a surprise gift.

Which brings us to where we are in the great 2010 Holiday Giveaway.

So far, here are the winners:
Beleaguered Mom
Griselda, who wanted to give donations to charities as Christmas Gifts
Grumpus, who has to deal with an Annoying Woman
Penniless, who needed advice about her job.
NaNoNundrum Girl (we haven’t posted this one yet)
Old Friend, whose last name begins with Mik, and therefore has become an honorary MikChik

Have we left anyone out?  There are still seven Beanie Baby/Sleeping Bag combinations to win.  Send us a regular coNUNdrum,  a CocoNUNdrum, or a new follower and we'll add you to the list.

Lastly, it's also come to our attention that many of you haven't heard of the VERY best (fictional) Christmas story of all time:  The Story of the Other Wiseman, by Henry Van Dyke.  We'll be giving this tender story to three of the Beanie Baby Sleeping Bag Winners.  Randomly.

That's it for a Friday.  May the chaos that can sometimes reign at this time of the year, settle, allowing you peace and joy.

All in Goodwill
Lisa and Maddie

  2. I think Lisa and Maddie have been spying and seeing how many of us work in our PJs, not because we work in home and are lazy, but because we genuinely think this style suits us...in an elegant sort of way.

  3. I have a dress that's been hanging in my closet for about 25 years - it is a BEE-UUU-TEE-FULL royal blue with black and and sparkly silver designs - I've been waiting for it to come back into style. I'll send you a picture, and I'm hoping you can tell me if it's hopeless.

  4. Fashion and I do not go together at all. I want to be warm. I do not want my stubby knees to be seen. End of story. :D

  5. Cat, can't wait to see it.

Sally, we can work within those parameters!

  6. Apparently, intervention is a MikChik gifting. I had a memory of Lisa attempting to yell through cyberspace when she found out I had scissors in hand while cutting my own hair...which turned out better than the previous haircut from a "real" hair stylist and held me over quite nicely until I had cash in hand for a real haircut from a "more real" stylist than previously used.

I also remembered my early teen attempt to pluck my own eyebrows. No Nike swoosh for me...but I sort of had the "Precious Moment" look.

  9. Oh my. If ever I needed help in anything (besides how to control my temper), it is with fashion. Blah. Can you work with a girl who abhors makeup and shops at second hand stores most of the time? Oh, and I'm so on board with the elegant PJ look that Mari mentioned...
