Playing Dress-up!

A Long History of Playing Dress-up:  Flapper Maddie

Dearest Readers!

Today we bring you a Special Edition of Connecting Coco.  We have a most faithful, yet impatient follower who needs help NOW.  Here is her eloquently penned request in the comment section of last Friday's blog (keep in mind that she's from Michigan):

Jan said…
Here's one for you two:
Christmas Eve midnight mass in Tampa, Florida.

Then in yesterday's blog comments, we found:

Jan said…
Christmas Eve is comin' on pretty quickly. I'm just sayin'.

We detected mild panic, so we threw Plan A out.  Plan A wasn't all that solid anyway—not even sure it's articulatable.  Here's Plan B:

Dear Midnight Mass Attendee,
We've synthesized the information at hand—event type, projected temps, and MOST importantly your basic stubborn personality, and therefore have chosen an outfit which is en route to Florida to your daughter's abode.  Package includes:  1 dress, 1 pair of shoes.  Any other garments you wish to wear that night, you should pack.

We can't force you to wear the outfit we've chosen, but I believe the Readers would be DEEPLY disappointed—as would we.  That's not (much of) a guilt trip.  If something doesn't fit, or isn't becoming, THIS we would understand—but we don't trust you to make that decision.  Therefore, we leave it in Florida Daughter's eyes.  If she says you look great, than you must wear the dress/shoes and be another ray of Florida Sunshine while you worship the King.

And pictures would be appreciated!

With LOTS of Love,
And because we missed sending you something for Flag Day,
love, love, love,
Lisa and Maddie

Come on Readers—let's apply some pressure encouragement.

  1. What the HECK? I wasn't asking for you to buy me an outfit! I was sort of hoping for something along the line of "Wear your khakis and a pretty red blouse".

How did you get my daughter's address, anyhoo?

You two are devious and sneaky. I'll let you sort out who's who.

    Mwah, though.

  2. Ha! We are nothing if not unpredictable!
    Mwah, back:)

  3. I'm sure I'm devious.
And how dumb do you think we are? We're both friends with Florida Daughter on FB...getting the address took roughly two minutes.

She's totally on board with this, btw.

  5. My first thought was to go on a hunger strike until pictures were posted of Jan wearing the chosen outfit. But, because of all the holiday baking, a hunger strike is out of the question.

I eagerly look forward to seeing the dress and shoes on Jan!

(I LOVE the adorable picture of flapper Maddie!)

  6. Can't wait to see Jan in the outfit. And as for Flapper Maddie...Oh my! what a cutie!

  7. What color is the dress? The shoes? Jan looks really good in red. What earring should she bring? Long necklace or short?
    Huh? Huh? Huh?
    :)

  8. Well, it isn't red--though red would have been beautiful. This is another gorgeous color. As far as necklaces go, the cross she wears will be lovely. We tried to order a snazzy bracelet, but it was temporarily out of stock and wouldn't arrive until it was too late. Maybe Florida Daughter will have one of those and some earrings she can borrow:)

The dress has a lot of versatility, and won't be difficult to accessorize.

We can't wait to see it on her!

  9. Oh man... don't EVER suggest a dress for me! I've had my share of required dress-wearing and feel very liberated in the new trend of dressing casual dressy for church, even for the pastor's wife! With my cankles and clunky ski-feet, I hate...no let me rephrase that...I abhor dress shoes and pantyhose.

With that said...Beth, the hunger strike cracked me up. I'm anxious to see what Jan's Christmas Eve outfit looks like, but I can't help but wonder if she's a tad bit sceered no matter how much she loves Devious and Sneaky.

  10. Ooooohhh, how fun. Looking forward to the pics. Play it up Jan - you'll be in the Mik Chik spotlight, which we know you just looooove ;)

  11. You missed Flag Day? Let's hope she's not still holding that against the two of you! I'll definitely be back to see the lovely Jan in her Christmas Eve dress and slippers -are they glass, by any chance? And what about a coach?

  12. There is much fodder for amazement and wonder here...actually, I have to thank Jan for resurrecting my sense of Christmas wonder this year. In fact, my sense of wonder may not be far behind how the wise men felt that first Christmas night. The cause of all this wonder, you wonder? Let me expound:

Picture two Mik chicks scheming, plannning, scurrying about. Nope, nothing out of place here...

But...actually going to the Post office and mailing off packages? Are you kidding?! Postal-phobic Miks? Seriously? Now THAT'S a miracle.

This self sacrificing act need not be taken lightly.

Jan, I implore you. I know that you must be shaking in your boots at the thought of what might be in that package, trust me, I know. But for the love of Christmas wonder and all that is magical, YOU'VE GOT TO WEAR IT!

  13. Dear Holly,
First I want to assure you that your Christmas Wonder should remain in tact--even though Maddie and I didn't physically mail Jan's package. We ordered it.

Readers, Holly is right about the mik-chiks having a post office phobia. While Maddie was at UVA, she didn't get a single package from me--not one.

With that said, last Saturday, we PHYSICALLY went to the post office where we PHYSICALLY mailed six beanie baby/sleeping bag combinations. It wasn't as traumatic as we imagined it would be--though the shipping charge to Canada hurt in a different way.

So Holly, though we didn't mail Jan's package, you can rest assured--the Postal Miracle lives.

  14. Wow...that's cool. You're special, Jan!

  15. ROFL! Sorry about Canada being a pain in your rear, er, wherever. I'll send you girls a pic of my beaming boy when he gets said package. Do we still get to leave that message on our machines?? Pretty please.... Postal phobia? The fearless Mik Chiks? I'll never believe it. Still excited for Jan :)

  16. Diana--we were happy to do it! You are the ONE person who has been excited about leaving a Mik-Chiks advertisement on her answering machine.

You have proper Connecting Now Spirit!

Can't wait to see the picture of beaming boy:)
