It's a Cry for HELP!!!!!

We promise--this is not what we'll become
Greetings Readers!

Today I, Lisa, come to you with a conundrum of my own.  (It may not stop with just one, but one for now.)  It seems I've taken on a job.  Why would I do that when I gave up a job last year so Maddie and I could finish a novel?—one might wonder. To that I say:  the last job (teaching ESL) was rewarding, but time-consuming in a methodical, government overseeing kind of way that was sucking the marrow from my bones.

I gave it up about nine months ago and dove into being a writer.

So what happened?

Well we made progress on the novelbut for Pete's sakewe could have had a baby in the interim.  Yet we didn't, though I'm not sure what Maddie and Aaron are waiting for—a blog for another day.   The point is, that we filled too much of our time with non-novel related writing.

And then the word languishing comes to mind.  I'm half-introverted and half-extroverted and the extroverted side was crying foul at the weeks where the only time I got dressed (for real) was on Sundays—which was also the only time I talked with people face to face.

Not counting Sam and Madeline and Dorian Gray.  Brilliant conversationalists that they are..

I knew a problem existed for real when I went on a recent trip and found myself sleeping with my laptop.  You don't know pathetic until you wake up intermittently throughout the night in the glow of a computer screen, anxious to know what the world is up to.

The laptop had taken over.

So, in knee-jerk fashion, I let go of a few writing jobs.  Additionally, Maddie and I decided not to be so Type A about our blog.  We love all of you and want to be here to help in any way we can, but we're not going to be scheduled about it.  We aren't going to post "filler" material if we don't have a conundrum in the queue—queue, boy, that word has a lot of vowels for being a one-syllable wonder.

But I digress . . .

The point is that we want the majority of our computer time to be spent editing our novel.  The other hours of life, we want to spend engaged with the living.  And that is how I, Lisa, ended up with a part-time job—Maddie already had one.

She's always one step ahead.

This brings me (finally) to the conundrum. I have to come up with an interesting/fun title for business cards.  Formally speaking, the job is:  Director of Dinner Theatre for Joe's Steakhouse(s)—there are two.

Here are a couple of ideas:
Director of Talent Acquisition and Performance Improvement
Joe's Steakhouse (thanks, Eric K.)

Director of Drama, Drama, Drama at Joe's Steakhouse (thanks, Holly)

Director of Joe's Steakhouse Dinner Theatrics
in support of community organizations you care about.
Joe's--where steak's good for the heart!

(every show will benefit a local organization/ministry in the Woodstock or Front Royal area)

Director of Mystery Dinner Theatrics
You won't find theater here—only drama! (thanks, Maddie)

Readers?  What do you think?   Do you like one of these? Do you have any other ideas?  Will you still stay with us if we post less often?  What if this is the year we have a ton of conundrums for you?  Will you drop us if we become needy—or dare I say dramatic?

Inquiring minds want to know.
xoxo
Lisa and Maddie

  4. Title? You want me to come up with a title?? That's the hardest thing about writing for me! But on a good note (maybe, depending on your opinion of me), I will never drop my MikChicks.

Ok, I do have a suggestion:

    "Drama Queen Extraordinaire." (Just kidding!)

    Love you guys!

  7. In order, I like 4, 2, 3 1. 1 is very professional sounding, but also boring sounding. Is Joe's boring? Not with you there.

Director, Department of Mysteries (and Theater)

The Harry Potter fans will flock to you. Like seagulls. Because I don't think owls flock.

  8. Oh, and I think you are wise to rearrange life to get that blasted novel finished. I'm not leaving, no matter what you do. You're just doomed that way.

  9. Funny--I call that novel "blasted" myself!!! But it really is coming along and we love how it's coming together. And I'm thankful we're doomed--that way.

  14. The first thing that comes to my mind is...bravery!! I have been trying to get my behind out from under my computer chair for several months now! Part-time jobs are tough to find, but I have given up a few that probably would have worked out fine, just too scared to try! You are an inspiration, and I pray this new job vs. blog outcome works out for you...I'll be watching and sticking around, for sure!

  15. Will these be given out to business? Is it a Mystery Theater? And how many lines are you looking for? Because contact info has to be on there too.

So the fewest words with a mix of professionalism and quirky?
